Dying boiled eggs, Easter Hat parades, making chocolate eggs, Easter Egg hunts and so on. We've done them all before and they are all lots of fun. Here's a few other things we do as well. |
Collaged Eggs We provide egg shapes on plain white card and encourage the children to design their own egg by colouring with crayons or textas and then decorating with collage materials such as picture shapes, foil pieces, wrapping paper strips, sequins etc. |
Easter Egg Tree Find a large branch and stand it up in a bucket of sand. Either blow eggs with the children and dye them, or have children bring egg shells from home and dye these. Carefully thread the eggs or shells onto string and hang on the tree. |
Dyed Paper Eggs An extension of dying real eggs...we provide large egg shapes cut from white paper and then encourage children to draw on the egg with white wax crayon. They then paint over with edicol dyes to create a lovely dyed egg. |
Chicks Go to a hatchery and hire some eggs for hatching, an incubator and a heating lamp. Teach the children the life-cycle of the chicken. There are lots of great activities to integrate with this eg. graphing the number of days it takes to hatch the eggs, graphing the colour of the chicks born and then doing a topic on pet/animal care. The children will be absolutely fascinated by watching the chicks hatch. Remember to find someone who can look after the chicks once they grow up and are too big for school! A great book to go with this activity is See How They Grow - Chicks with photography by Jane Burton |
Baskets. We used the bottoms of milk cartons for the basket. The children then glued pre cut paper strips around the edge of the basket and glued egg shapes on the edges to decorate. We helped the children to fill the basket with stuffing (shredded paper) and to staple on a handle. We sent the baskets home with a special present inside...a chocolate egg. |
Bunny Ears An egg shape cut in half makes two bunny ears. Cotton wool balls makes them fluffy and a strap lets us wear the bunny ears on our head so we can hop around kindergarten like little Easter rabbits |
Marbled eggs Painting with watercolour paints on shiny white card or litho paper creates an interesting marbled effect. |
Baskets on Paper We photocopied pictures of baskets onto coloured paper and provided coloured egg shapes for the children to make a basket filled with eggs |
