Educator Profile: About Me
My Backgound
My name is Tina Giorgiante and I am from Perth, Western Australia.  This is my 11th (!) year as a teacher and I am really enjoying it.  I have worked in kindergarten for 3 years.  I was lucky enough to be offered a teaching position in an off-site kindergarten in my 2nd year out of university, and it was really such a positive experience that I began this site.  I still love the kindergarten age group even though its been a long time since I have been teaching kindergarten.

I previously worked with grade 1 and 2 on temporary contracts, did a lot of relief (sub) teaching, and worked as a room supervisor in day care settings with 0-5 year olds.

                         - Bachelor of Arts (Early Childhood Education)
                         - Bachelor of Education (Conversion for Qualified Teachers)
North American Montessori Centre Montessori Elementary Diploma
What I''m Doing Now
Currently, I am living and working Canada, and broadening my teaching experience.  I am working full time in a Montessori school in a lower elementary classroom (grade 1-3) which is where I have been for almost 4 years now.   I have spent a total of 6 1/2 years in this school, the first 2 1/2 as an assistant to a very special girl with special needs.  This gave me a wonderful apprenticeship in Montessori philosophy and learning.  When I was offered my teaching position, I was lucky enough to spend 50 hours training under a fantastic Montessori tutor, Sherin Alibhai.  Working in a Montessori environment has helped me to broaden my philosophies and practices and has made me a more well-rounded teacher.  It also blends extremely well with the philosophies I developed  as a university student and new teacher in the Western Australian public school system.

Aside from teaching, I am also working part-time as the Education Coordinator of the local SPCA (Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) where I have the pleasure of teaching both children and adults the joys and challenges of working in an animal shelter, and how to be better humans to our animals.
