Here's a few activities we do to help children learn about patterns...
Gluing patterns with collage materials
Gluing shapes to make a pattern
Using objects to print a pattern
Threading coloured macaroni  in a pattern
to make necklaces
We also encourage children to design their own patterns using materials found in the learning environment
Madeleine designed a pattern using
wood blocks...
....she also used pattern blocks...
...and glued one using junk materials...
...and drew some
Other ideas

Provide  large wooden or plastic beads and shoelaces and encourage children to use the beads to thread a pattern onto the shoelaces.

Look at patterns in clothing that the children wear to school

We always have a whiteboard available with markers and encourage the children to draw patterns using shapes, numbers, letters etc.

We write up patterns and non patterns on the whiteboard and encourage the children to identify all the patterns then all the non patterns
And Taron painted some...
