Spring Tree
To make the leaves we involved the children in a fingerpainting activity with green and yellow paints and took prints of their fingerpainting.  When the prints were dry the children traced around a leaf shape on their print and cut it out.  To make the trunk we cut out a large trunk shape on thick paper and children fingerpainted on it with black and brown paints.  We also cut another large rectangle piece of paper and fingerpainted on this using brown and black paints and cut the branches and twigs from this.
In Summer, blossoms and friuts can be made for the tree byscrunching crepe paper into balls and attaching them to the tree. Click here to see an Autumn Tree

Coloured Birds
Before the activity you need to prepare head shapes from card, long streamers for tail feathers, short streamers for head feathers, cut small beak shapes  and cut coloured crepe paper into small squares.  For the activity, children need to paint a paper plate.  When it is dry,  children need to scrunch the crepe paper into balls and glue it on for body feathers. The need to then choose some long streamers for the tail feathers and adult needs to staple these on.  For the head, the children need to glue on a beak and head feathers and draw an eye.  The adult then needs to staple the head onto the body.  These birds look bright and colourful hanging in the classroom
Spring Flowers
You can make a garden of beautiful spring flowers on a bulletin board.  To make the flowers you need to trace middle sized circle shapes onto colour card and prepare rectangles of coloured crepe paper.   Trace around small leaf shapes onto coloured card. You will also need straws and coloured patty pans and separate these into a container. Have each child cut around one circle shape.and then glue a patty pan in the centre of the circle.  The child then needs to scrunch crepe paper into balls and glue it around the endge of the patty pan to make petals.  Next,  cut around two leaf shapes.  An adult needs to help the child tape these to a straw and then needs to help the child tape the straw to the back of the flower to make a stem.  To make a flower garden.  Pin  or blue backing paper to your bulletin board and then pin on the flowers and any other pictures to enhance the board.  It will look great!
Threaded Butterflies
Trace and cut around butterfly shapes and punch holes evenly spaced around the edge of the shape.  Attach stiff string to one of the holes and tape the end of the string if necessary so that children are able to put it through the holes easily.  Teach children the concept of threading  up and down through the holes.  When it is completed, the children might like to colour or decorate their butterfly in some way.   Jemma tried to make a rainbow on her butterfly
Woven Ducks.
Trace around duck shapes and cut them out.  Use a Stanley trimmer to cut horizontal lines in the body of the duck.  Provide paper strips for the children to weave through the body.  The concept of under and over will need to be taught and some close adult supervision will be needed till children get the hang of it.  But they are very proud of their duck once its finished
Blob Print Butterflies
These were made by doing blob prints with the children.  Blob prints basically involve putting blobs of paint onto paper, and then folding the paper over in half and rubbing your palm across it to mix the paints together.  The result when the paper is opened out is a symmetrical print that resembles a butterfly.  We traced around the edge of the print for the child with a marker so they could cut out their butterfly shape
Butterfly Magnets
This is a fun activity that allows the children to make something they can use at home.  Get a wooden clothes peg and firstly twist a piece of coloured tissue paper, open the peg and put a dab of glue and put the tissue paper inside the peg on the glue so it dries in place.  This makes the wings.  Next get a small piece of pipe cleaner and glue this inside the peg also so it is sticking out to resemble antennae.  Once this is done, glue small pom pom balls along the top of the peg and glue small eyes onto the head of the buttefly.  When the butterfly is dry, glue a round magnet onto the bottom of the peg and then you have a butterfly fridge magnet!  The pom poms, small eyes and magnets can all be bought from craft stores.  Try to buy the magnets in bulk packs as they can be very expensive to buy individually.  If you can't find bulk packs in craft stores, try looking in craft wholesale outlets or at educational supplies wholesalers
